http://www.thetailsection.com/season_4_lineup_and_the_possib.php#more

You've got questions, we've got answers — straight from the mouths of Lost exec producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. We sifted through more than 2,000 queries from EW readers and presented the most pressing to the powers that be.

What happened to Michael and Walt?
CARLTON CUSE: We put a pin in the Michael and Walt story for the season, but by no means is it over. It would be very strange for the end of Michael and Walt to just send them off in that boat without any acknowledgment of what has happened. But if you look at the bigger picture of Lost, there's a circularity to the way that story is going to unfold in the overall mythology, and that is a long, planned approach. Yes, we'll get back to the Michael and Walt story, and it will be really compelling when we do. But that's most likely a year 4 story.
DAMON LINDELOF: Michael and Walt are the first characters on the show to ''get off the island.'' But the pervasive question remains: What is ''off the island''?

Are we going to get the history of the Others in one shot, or will this be revealed over time?
LINDELOF: It's definitely unfolding. We will begin to find out how certain miembros of the Others joined the Others. Episode 7 should play as a surprise to some audience miembros that Juliet was not born on the island — she came off the island and was recruited by the Others. So some of them were born there and some of them were recruited, but what they are there to do will be revealed before who put them there and why.
CUSE: The connection between the Others and Dharma gets revealed in episode 11.

When will we see Libby again? Will we ever learn how she got into the mental hospital with Hurley?
CUSE: Given everything else Tenemos to tell, that's going to be a mystery that's going to have to get answered in year 4.
LINDELOF: There's really one significant missing piece to Libby's story. We saw in the season finale last year that she met with Desmond, she gave him his boat, and we know that her husband died — and then we know that subsequent to that, she spent some time in a mental institution, the same one as Hurley. The question the audience wants answered is, How did she get from A to B — from Desmond to the mental institution? We know the answer to that question, but the only way to tell that story is through another character's flashback, and that character would have to be another character on the show who is not among the beach dwellers.

What is the significance of the horse that Kate saw?
CUSE: People seem mystified by this. I would say this: Tenemos seen a number of apparitions on the island, from Jack's dad to Kate's horse. You'll be getting more of an understanding of those apparitions during the course of this season.
LINDELOF: What is the nature of those apparitions? By definition, an apparition shouldn't be something you could go up and touch, or that other people should be able to see. And yet, Kate's horse is real. It is living in the physical world. Sawyer sees it; Kate goes up and touches it. Does the horse bear a striking resemblance to a horse that provided her an escape in her past as a fugitive, or is it the same exact horse? That is a fundamental question. But look at the show in total. Here's Christian Shepherd [Jack's dad]. Here's Yemi [Eko's brother]. Here's the horse. Here's Walt. [Remember, Walt appeared to Shannon, and later to Shannon and Sayid in a backwards-speaking vision.] Are all those things the same thing, or are some of them different things?
CUSE: We're also using these things to set up an animated sitcom spin-off called ''Kate's Horse and Sayid's Cat.''
LINDELOF: That's right. Sayid's cat is coming up in episode 11. We're not joking.
CUSE: Except for the animated part.

What is the meaning or significance of the two skeletons that Jack and Kate found in the cave of season 1?
CUSE: The answer to that question goes to the nature of the timeline of the island. We don't want to say too much about it, but there are a couple Easter eggs embedded in [the Feb. 7 episode], one of which is an anagram that actually sheds some light on the skeletons and hints at a larger mythological mystery that will start to unfold later in the season.
LINDELOF: There were certain things we knew from the very beginning. Independent of ever knowing when the end was going to be, we knew what it was going to be, and we wanted to start setting it up as early as season 1, or else people would think that we were making it up as we were going along. So the skeletons are the living — or, I guess, slowly decomposing — proof of that. When all is said and done, people are going to point to the skeletons and say, ''That is proof that from the very beginning, they always knew that they were going to do this.''

Last season, we saw in Ana Lucia's flashback that she witnessed an argument between Christian Shepherd and a woman in Australia, in which Christian demanded to see his daughter. The burning question/conspiracy theory that fans have is this: Is Claire Jack's half sister?
CUSE: We're not going to answer that question — but the show will. In the next six episodes.

Did Desmond's failure to press the button REALLY cause the plane to crash — or is there more to this story?
LINDELOF: In terms of the pragmatic reality, Oceanic 815 never would have crashed had Desmond pushed the button. But is there a larger, more faith-based, spiritualized reason that these people happened to be on that plane when he failed to press the button? If Desmond hadn't run into Jack at that stadium, would he have made the same choices that he made in his life? They all impact each other's lives. The fact that that guy is on that plane up there, and Desmond brings that plane down, it speaks to an interrelatedness among characters, why these people, why do they all connect. No amount of mythological answers will ever speak to this. That's the one thing that when the show ends, you won't have a causal explanation for why did all these people interconnect. Why some, why not others? The answer is just that they just do. The show is a massive Rube Goldberg device, in which all the components of the machinery are humans.

Even though The Hatch blew up, will we return to the mystery of the Dharma map that Desmond's previous Hatch occupants were painting on the retractable blast door?
CUSE: We will be visiting another Dharma station soon. But the map becomes less important, because when they visit this new station, they'll be getting some new information that Ayudas them understand where the Dharma people lived and where their stations are.

Will Penelope ever become a significiant character, and when will we get a follow-up to the monumentally dramatic revelation at the end of season 2 that the EM burst was detected off the island?
CUSE: Penelope's story continues in episode 8 [Feb. 14] in Desmond's flashbacks. We put that scene at the end of the season finale for a reason, and like the anagram, they're components to a larger revelation. You'll learn more about why we put that scene at the end of season 2 by the end of season 3.

Does time pass differently on the island than off the island?
LINDELOF: That's a really perceptive question. We know that the Others taped the Red Sox win the World Series in 2004... so that would seem to indicate that time flows the same both on and off. But then again, when the sky turns purple and the ground shakes... wait. Hold on. Carlton is wringing my neck.
CUSE: Yes. Time passes very slowly because they don't have American Idol to watch.

In the ''death of Mr. Eko'' episode, it was my interpretation that the Monster was able to assume human form, i.e., Eko's brother. Am I crazy for thinking that? And will we learn anything more about the Monster's origins this season?
LINDELOF: You're not crazy. You will see the monster again this season. Its origins, however... well, you'll have to wait.
CUSE: Whether or not you learn more about it will depend on how obsessive you are. If you enjoy recording the program and studying individual frames, you might. But really, is that healthy?

Is there a mystery you will never solve?
LINDELOF: We will never give story time to revealing the construction of the infamous rope bridge.
CUSE: And honestly, we're never going to tell you why the French lady has a Yugoslavian accent.

http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30519

You little devils. We were taking these flashbacks at face value, and now, this mind-blowing realization that the Losties could be time-traveling. What the—?! That was awesome! Is this sort of a climax of season three?
C.C.: This is the first of a couple of turning points.
D.L.: Yeah. We had mentioned earlier that we were going to drop a couple of bombs in the middle of season three. And this is sort of—
C.C.: Bomb one.
D.L.: I'd say this is kind of a grenade. The real bombs have yet to come.
C.C.: Right now we are softening up the earth for the big bombs that are going to fall. The B-52 is on its way.

Henry Ian Cusick was so good in the episode. Are we going to see more of him as the season continues?
C.C.: Absolutely. I mean, I think the Desmond-Penny love story is really central to the whole overall mythology of the show.
D.L.: And obviously, he sort of leveled Charlie with this very sort of specific proclamation at the end of the episode, that Charlie is going to die. And coming down all the way through the end of season three, that becomes a very major storyline that we're following, which is, Desmond keeps seeing Charlie die and can he stop it? Is he powerless to stop it?

So has Dominic Monaghan been calling you every day just to check on what's happening in the writer's room?
D.L.: What is tricky is that Dominic Monaghan is an awesome actor. Before we put out this script we called him and said, "Look, this is what Desmond is going to say to you." We had to have a conversation with him about where we were going. And [Dom] was very, very excited about it. Just because, the idea of one day you're Charlie, and you care about Claire and the baby. And suddenly, the next day you're Charlie, and you care about Claire and the baby, but you've got this, you know, massive Grim Reaper standing over you at all times. I think it's really given that character something that he didn't have before. We've sort of moved on beyond the addiction, and now he has something really cool to play.

Does Dom know whether he’s going to be killed off?
C.C.: Nope. He, like all the actors, only sees the script for this week's episode. We told him this was going to happen, but he doesn't know what the character's ultimate fate is.

And what can you tell me about what lies ahead?
C.C.: More beach. We're back to the beach. Our guys are out of the survival story on the little Alcatraz Island. And we have much more with the original Losties coming up.

So bye-bye to the Others?
D.L.: No, not at all. Next's week's episode, Jack is still back on Alcatraz—he has just finished the surgery. And we have not seen the ramifications of Juliet shooting Pickett or any of that stuff. So, we have to pick up that story thread—and understand what happened to Sawyer, Kate, and Karl—and once that's done, as Carlton said, it's time to have some fun with Hurley, and do a little Claire story and have some Sayid action.
C.C.: The Sayid episode answers a lot of mythological questions. That's a good one. That's coming up in about four weeks.

A few weeks ago, you said you were discussing an end point for the series—which, by the way, is something I never want to happen. Have you yet figured out an end?
C.C.: We are having conversations with the network about that. And yes, we would like to be able to tell everyone when Lost is going to end. Because the show has a beginning, a middle and an end. It's a story, it's a story that has a conclusion.
D.L.: I think a lot of the time, Carlton and I feel like we're the parents in the front of the car and the kids are in the back going, "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" And we just keep turning around, saying, "No, we're not there yet." But what we can't do is say, "We're not there yet, but we're gonna get there at this point." Whatever that point is, I feel that we owe the audience who has come with us for now, you know, 60 episodes. They deserve to be told, this is where we are going, and you know, when it's going to end.
C.C.: And they need a bathroom break.
D.L.: And they need a bathroom break. Boy, do they. I need a bathroom break!

Anything else you want to tell the fans?
C.C.: Just that the island is an alien space ship.
D.L.: And will be blasting off.
D.L.: No, you know, all we can say is we weathered the storm of being off the air for three months. We feel the fans have a lot of legitimate criticisms. But really, I think we both feel, and everybody in Hawaii feels, that these next 16 episodes are really cool and taking a lot of unexpected twists and turns. And I think it's great that we're on the air for the next 16 weeks, and you only have to wait another six days for another Lost once one ends. All that being said, we just really, really love our fans, and it's great that they are so passionate about the show. And a lot of times we hear criticism and the same time we know it's their show, too. It's just really cool to be back on the air, and we're excited about what's ahead.

Source tailsection

The future of LOST may be its past! So far LOST has made two trips back to catch up with plane crash characters, ‘The Other 48 days’ chronicled the adventures of the tail section survivors, and this week’s ‘Expose’ will flashback to overview newcomers Nikki and Paulo’s misadventures since Oceanic 815 first broke apart and scattered itself over the mysterious island. The latest rumors circulating indicate that LOST will be going even further back in time, on and off the island, before the season is done. Read on for the who, what, where, and when.

Just when you think you knew it all about Dharma, prepare for an information overload in episode 20, which will be airing May 9th. The so far untitled episode will go way back to the 70’s and will, if rumors are true, explain a lot about the first interaction between the Dharma folks and the indigenous island people who we have come to know as ‘The Others’. Amongst the characters will be a younger Dr. Marvin Candle, the mysterious DeGroots, and a staunch by-the-numbers Hanso representative who may have a secret agenda. There is no information as to whether the entire episode takes place in the past, or, if it doesn’t, how it will interface with the present events on the island.

Some of the characters, if rumors are true, will make their way from this episode into the May 23th two-hour finale to continue their trek through time. That episode will likely be Ben centric and is rumored to give us an insight into the island that will have fans talking all summer long. Dharma will, again, factor heavily into the episode and the fabled ‘incident’ as well as the ‘purge’, (one in the same?), will be touched upon.

The pressure amongst the writers at this point is to come up with something of the magnitude of Season One’s ‘what is in the hatch’ cliffhanger. It is thought that season two’s kidnapping / Arctic listening post ending just did not generate enough discussion amongst fans to cull the kind of ratings that the hatch reveal brought in. So look for all this island history to hook up with a present day dilemma of the mind blowing variety.

Source: http://spoilerslost.blogspot.com/2007/04/l...e-spoilers.html
